A quirky classic, the Gufram Cactus Coat Rack is a clothing stand designed by Guido Drocco and Franco Mello in 1972 for the Italian furniture manufacturers Gufram.
Avant-garde and experimental, Gufram have been influencing the direction of contemporary design since their launch in 1966. Guido Drocco and Franco Mello are a design duo who both teach at the University of Turin. They initially created this strikingly unconventional cactus to disrupt and question the static world of 1970's interiors.
The Gufram Cactus Coat Rack has since become a pop art icon, incorporating the vibrant colour and humour of the movement, but adding a genuine element of functionality. Rendered in polyurethane, this cactus is soft and gentle to the touch, so don't worry about any sharp thorns. It offers four arms to hold your coats, scarves and hats, but it can also be displayed as an ornamental feature. As tall as a person, it measures 70 x 70 x 170 cm and each one is handmade, with studs individually galvanised by trained artisans. Choose the stunningGufram Cactus Coat Rack if you seek a fun statement piece, with a modern art vibe.
