Modern Line Lounge Chair

The Modern Line Lounge Chair has been created by Greta Magnusson Grossman for the brand Gubi. Magnusson Grossman was a major force in American design in the 1940s and 50s, creating furnishings for some of Hollywood's greatest stars. Modern Line is an example of her artistry, combining beautiful mid-century aesthetics with comfort and durability.

First introduced in 1949, the Modern Line Lounge Chair continues to impress with its chunky back and seat cushions and short, slimline legs. The cushions have been engineered for comfort with No-zak springs and foam materials, while the exterior has been upholstered in a Kvadrat Tonus 615 fabric with a rich grey tone. Inside, Magnusson has used lightweight plywood and pre-covered cardboard for the frame, keeping the weight down while ensuring maximum strength.

The Modern Line Lounge Chair has a seat height of 41cm and a total height of 70cm, while the chair is 80cm wide and 83cm deep. This creates a spacious corner to sink into and relax, an effect that is accentuated by the internal springs and responsive foam. Underneath, the base is barely noticeable but provides plenty of support. Each leg has a plastic foot to guard against damage when using the seat on fragile surfaces.
