9602 Floor Lamp

The 9602 Floor Lamp has been created by Paavo Tynell for the brand Gubi. The lamp, originally designed in 1938, is known by the moniker 'Chinese Hat' because of its shade. Initially designed for a hotel, it found a ready market when it was debuted to the public.

The 9602 Floor Lamp has a cone-shaped shade made of untreated bamboo, canvas or wicker willow. It is as wide as the traditional Chinese hat. The canvas shade is a singular piece while those made of bamboo or wicker willow are sewn onto each other with thin thread that is almost invisible. It has a bronze, screw-on top at the top. The metal has also been used for the support that holds the light source in place. The shade is supported by a delicate yet sturdy rattan-covered stem. Its strength is reinforced by a bronze ring at the bottom. The stem is held steady on the floor by a disc-shaped base that is also bronze.

The 9602 Floor Lamp has a height of 152cm and a diameter of 63cm. Its cable is 200cm long. It is not dimmable. The lamp comes in neutral and earth-toned colours to complement the natural bamboo and wicker willow used during production. It is compatible with an E27 socket though a bulb has to be ordered separately.
