The Gem Suspension Lamp was created by Ludovica and Roberto Palomba for Foscarini.
Launched on the island of Murano in 1981, Foscarini is now based on the Venetian mainland but still combines the traditions of Murano glass-blowing with innovative techniques to create lighting pieces destined to become design classics. Design-duo Ludovica and Roberto Palomba work on everything from industrial design to domestic interiors. Among their major design prizes are the Compasso d'Oro and the Good Design Award.
With its subtle lines and graceful fluidity the Gem Suspension Lamp moves easily between public and domestic settings. The irregularity of its glass surface makes a sculptural statement when the light is switched off, but it means the lamp projects unexpected effects when lit. The Gem pendant is constructed from mouth-blown, acid-etched glass created in diamond-shaped patterns with a frosted finish. The overall effect is of a pebble that has been weathered by time and nature. Within the frosted shade is an energy-efficient LED module which diffuses a warm white light. The Gem Suspension Lamp is 44cm in height and 43cm in diameter, and it complements the table lamp in the same range.
