The Mantis BS3 Table Lamp was designed by Bernard Schottlander for the brand DCW.
Schottlander (1924-1999) was a major British designer. Active from the 50s onward, he became a leading specialist in metalworking. Using modern industrial techniques, he turned out a series of remarkable metallic lamps, primarily for the France-based DCW label.
In the case of the Mantis BS3 Table Lamp, Scottlander chose to offset the slender frame and diffuser with a clever series of counterweights, thereby enabling users to position the lamp in a variety of different ways. He also employed a mix of aluminium, steel and brass to keep the weight low while ensuring optimum strength. Created in 1981, the lamp has an elegant, minimalist composition and will be a superbly practical lighting solution for everyone, from architects to students. The lamp has a wafer-thin spine and a visually appealing shade. It measures 82 x 84 cm and comes with a handy 220cm long cable, while the diffuser has a diameter of 22 cm. Thanks to a single powerful LED bulb, it will shed enough light for reading and close work, whatever the task entails.
