What makes this brand so special?

Fun and passion:
Company founder Rolf Hay had no special connection to furniture as a child. This interest only developed when he came to Germany after completing his school-leaving exams – and is now stronger than ever. Rolf Hay designs furniture with a unique passion. Of course, this also applies to the designers with whom the label collaborates. Their joy of creating is reflected in all HAY furniture, which is friendly, aesthetic and functional.
Diversity:

The essence of HAY?

The goal of HAY is to breathe new life into Danish furniture from the 1950s and 1960s. During this period, Denmark was considered the world leader in designer furniture. About the founder

Contrary to expectations, Rolf Hay's first brush with classic Danish designer furniture didn't take place in his home country. He actually discovered it at the IMM furniture fair in Cologne, Germany. He was working in a Danish pine furniture store in Hanover, which was why he visited the exhibition in the first place. Rolf Hay was so enthusiastic about the designer furniture from his home country that he wanted to find out all about it. Peter Biehl, the former agent for the designer furniture brand Montana, became his tutor. Rolf Hay's journey then led him to the design companies Gubi and Paustian in Copenhagen, where he continued his apprenticeship. He also met his future wife at Gubi – the couple now manages the creative side of the business, while the commercial aspects are the responsibility of Troels Holch Povlsen, owner of the successful Danish fashion brand Bestseller. Hay and Povlsen first met on a job furnishing a house. Chance, luck or destiny? Povlsen liked Rolf Hay's interior design ideas so much that he was determined to establish a furniture brand with him. In 2002, they founded the company HAY in Horsens, Denmark. Just one year later, the first HAY furniture collection was presented at IMM in Cologne. Rolf Hay's interior designs reflect the essentials; designer names and a holistic concept are less important to him. Instead, he largely focuses on the products themselves, which should be comfortable, durable and affordable – simply made for people!
