The Cadmo collection by Artemide attracts attention! The impressively long and very elegant lighting objects are products by the pop star of the design scene, Karim Rashid. The US designer and son of Egyptian-British parents is famous for his organic shapes and bold colours. With over 300 design awards he counts as one of the most successful designers of our time. Numerous designs by Rashid decorate museums all over the world, among them the Museum of Modern Art in New York.
In 2006 he designed the Cadmo Terra for Artemide. Three years later Karim Rashid created the matching wall lamp, the Cadmo Parete. Until today the Cadmo collection by Artemide is comprised only of these two prizewinning lamps, which were awarded with the Red Dot Award, the IF Product Design Award, and the Good Design Award.
They say the designer was inspired by a rain cape he saw a man wearing on a rainy day in Milan. And indeed, the Cadmo lamps envelop the light like a cape, but with its rising, organic shape the Cadmo Terra floor lamp also looks like something from the floral world: A fine, lacquered steel sheet envelops two light sources, which let the soft light rays go upwards as well as diffused along the vertical opening. Thanks to its solid base the floor lamp from the Cadmo collection is especially steady and with its extraordinarily long electrical cable of 160 cm offers great location flexibility.
Different lighting atmospheres enables the dimmer, with which both illuminants of the Cadmo lamps are equipped and can additionally be regulated separately. Other than the version with halogen lamp the lamps from the Cadmo collection can also be equipped with so-called HRIs. These halogen metal halide lamps are more compact in size and yet stronger in luminosity than conventional halogen lamps. Furthermore, they have a longer service life and a better colour rendering. However, HRI lamps take a couple of minutes to unfold their full luminosity.
The Italian design manufacturer Artemide is seen as a synonym for design, innovation, and “made in Italy”. Their philosophy: Light should contribute to improvement of the quality of life. And thus this renowned manufacturer cooperates with the world wide best designers to create lamps extraordinaire – of which one is the Cadmo collection!
