The Baby Cloud LED Table Lamp was created by legendary architect Frank Gehry for the Belux label in 2005, and is a wonderfully imaginative piece of domestic lighting design.
Many people will be familiar with Gehry's architectural achievements, which include Bilbao's Guggenheim Museum and the Louis Vuitton Foundation in Paris. However, they may not be so aware of his glittering product design career. Gehry has always mixed grand architecture with small-scale design, and the Swiss lighting partnership Belux has been one of his key collaborators.
The Cloud collection actually marked a watershed in Gehry's career, being his first line of domestic lights intended for mass production. But he hasn't sacrificed imagination in the process. His brief was to create something extraordinary, and he did so, conjuring up a collection formed from crimped, interlaced plastic sheets. The result resembles a cloud, with its lightness of touch and unpredictable folds.
Each Baby Cloud LED Table Lamp measures 23 x 17 cm and comes with a 130cm-long cable. They take a 42W LED bulb, which creates a reliable light source and keeps energy consumption low. So they are impressive from a technical perspective, as well as being visually gorgeous.
