The AMA500 Suspension Lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto for the brand Artek.
Since its founding by Alvar Aalto and three colleagues in 1935, the Finnish label Artek has been a leader in innovative furniture and lighting design as well as in manufacturing techniques. Alongside his furniture and product design for the label, Aalto was also responsible for the creation of many iconic buildings and houses in Finland.
This AMA500 Suspension Lamp is a reworking of one of Alvar Aalto's designs from the 1930s. It has been brought right-up-to-date to be sustainable and eco-friendly. The powder-coated sheet steel shade has a sculptured shape and is available in a choice of colours that contrast pleasingly with the two decorative brass rings. Ambient light filters through these rings to create striking patterns, while the main diffusion of soft warm light is aimed downwards. Timelessly classic in appearance, this suspension lamp works well when hung singly over tables, or groups of them can be suspended in larger rooms or hallways. The AMA500 Suspension Lamp is 23cm in height with a diffuser diameter of 32cm and a canopy diameter of 12cm. The cable is 250cm in length. One 60W halogen bulb is required (not included).
