The Original 1227 Midi Suspension Lamp was designed by George Carwardine for the brand Anglepoise.
The late Carwardine was initially a well-known and respected automotive engineer. He specialised in vehicle suspension systems before taking a different career path to design lighting accessories that would turn him into an icon. His debut design was a four-spring lamp, a completely new idea that combined free movement and perfect balance via a patented constant spring mechanism. Thus was born the renowned Anglepoise lamp.
Years later, the Original 1227 Midi Suspension Lamp remains widely popular. It is a reinvention of the 1935 desk lamp Carwardine designed, this time taking the form of a pendant luminaire. It retains the original classic design with modern touches like being dimmable using mains phase dimming. The shade is made with steel and has a gloss finish while the other parts are chrome-plated. Its dimensions are a shade diameter of 23cm, shade height of 25.5cm, ceiling rose of 10cm and a maximum cable length of 150cm. The Original 1227 Midi Suspension Lamp can be placed over tables in homes and restaurants and in clusters over longer tables such as dining tables and meeting tables in offices.
