The Aslak Armchair was designed by Ilmari Tapiovaara for the brand Artek .

Tapiovaara was a giant of Finnish design. Born in 1914, he studied under Modernist greats like Le Corbusier and Alver Aalto, creator of theArtek brand. Always seeking to make the highest standards of design available to the masses, Tapiovaara pioneered the use of stacking techniques, deploying new forms of plastic to make seating more comfortable for everyone.

The Aslak Armchair was created in 1958 and remains a design classic. Sporting a sleek, curved armrest and a cleverly proportioned seat, it measures 53 x 76 x 50 cm and has been manufactured from pure beechwood. While this keeps the weight low, it also lends the Aslak Armchair admirable strength, allowing users to stack it up without fear of damage. The chair's form also incorporates sinuous angles, producing a aesthetic effect which transcends conventional seating while possessing traditional Nordic restraint.
