The A201 Suspension Lamp was designed by Alvar Aalto for the brand Artek.
This Finnish architect and designer embraced styles from Purist Classicist to International Modernist, and was not afraid to experiment with materials. He received countless awards, including the Prince Eugen Medal in 1954, and the Gold Medal from the American Institute of Architects in 1963. The High Stool is one of his most recognisable designs, being incorporated into customer seating layouts for all Apple Stores.
The A201 Suspension Lamp features both downward and upward illumination, so is perfect for hanging above dining tables or in areas where more focused activities are conducted. The light is available in different colours, and features two different sized powder coated cylinders, with a stylish, brass plated ring fitted to the lower light cylinder. It has a cable length of 250 cm, which can be adjusted to suit requirements, so a collection of these lights can be hung at varying heights. The lamp emits a warm illumination from the wider shade at the top, while the lower shade provides more specific and downward lighting. The lamp measures 20 x 29 x 250 cm, with a canopy diameter of 12cm, and diffuser diameter of 29cm. Energy efficient E27 light bulbs require ordering separately.
