During his studies Janne proved the potential that Rapid Prototyping techniques can be used as manufacturing tools. He introduced a line of Augmented Reality and Rapid Manufactured based products as his thesis for graduation. This project laid the foundation for FOC, a design studio called Freedom of Creation (FOC) that he founded in 2000.
Since the founding of FOC in 2000, extensive research conducted by FOC in layer manufacturing has resulted in innovative and successful commercial product designs, the development of new industrial materials and software products, and has been the foundation for significant Research & Development projects with a range of industrial partners.
Kyttänen's designs and the technique he uses have been featured in several magazines such as Business Week, Surface, Elle Decor and Dwell magazine (March, 2008).
His work has won numerous design awards, including the Best Newcomer Award 100% Design 2003, the Red Dot Design Award 2005 and the Interior Innovation Award Cologne in 2006. In 2007 he was awarded the Finland´s Young Designer of the Year prize.
