For over 30 years the lamps from the Onfale collection have been fascinating design lovers all over the world. As early as 1978 the Venetian artist Luciano Vistosi designed these hand-blown lighting objects made of Murano glass for Artemide. For the world famous, Italian lighting manufacturer the Onfale collection with its stylised lamps that look like mushrooms counts as one of their most successful design classics.
The Onfale lamps are entirely made of glass and shine from top to base. This means, the cylindrical supporting base made of opal class is equipped with its own illuminant and emits just as much soft, diffused light into the room as its hemispherical lampshade. On the edge of its velvety white surface the shade of the Onfale lamps features transparent crystal glass, which makes up an exciting contrast to the opal glass.
Today the Onfale collection's designer, Luciano Vistosi, is a renowned glass artist, who is globally known for his hand-blown sculptures. Born in 1931 as the child of glass manufacturers he had a natural affinity for this material. However, his parents were firm believers in the industrial production of glass, while Luciano Vistosi turned towards manufacturing glass by hand after his father's death, as well as towards modern design especially that of lighting objects. Around this time, in the late 1970s, he created the Onfale collection for Artemide. Over the years Vistosi developed more and more interest in traditional glass art, for which he is so famous today. Luciano Vistosi lives in Venice and works in his studio in Murano.
The Onfale collection's table lamp is available in three sizes; they can be found as Onfale Tavolo Grande, Onfale Tavolo Medio, as well as Onfale Tavolo Piccolo. Because the glass material is so sensitive, replacement glass shades for the Onfale lamps are available as well.
With its simple beauty the lamps from the Onfale collection by Artemide wonderfully adapt to any interior style and cosily illuminate it with soft, diffused light. A bold eye-catcher that creates a comfortable flair.
